Applications are welcomed from suitably qualified applicants for the United States Institute of Peace (USIP) Scholar Fellowship Program for candidates who are writing doctoral dissertations on topics related to conflict management, peacebuilding and security studies.
The program awards up to 18 fellowships per year, and awards support both research and writing stages of work on dissertations. Peace Scholar Fellows receive a stipend of up to $20,000, paid directly to the fellows in three tranches. Interested applicants are encouraged to take advantage of the fellowship offer.

United States Peace Scholar Fellowship 2025 | Eligibility Criteria
To be considered for the USIP Peace Scholar Fellowship, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Application is open to candidates enrolled at U.S. universities who have successfully completed all required classwork and comprehensive exams.
- Applicants must demonstrate excellent academic and research abilities.
- Fellowship supports research that depends the understanding of conflict management, peacebuilding and security studies.
- Peace Scholars are expected to devote full attention to their work throughout the duration of the fellowship.
- Successful Scholars must be available to participate in-person at the annual Peace Scholar workshop in Washington D.C. in September 2025.
Application Procedures
How-to-Apply: Interested applicants for the United States Peace Scholar Fellowship are to complete an online application and provide all the required documents on or before the application deadline.
